Christo and Jeanne-Claude were a married couple of artists who became known from the 1960s onwards, primarily through their jointly realised spectacular wrapping projects.
Jeanne-Claude and Christo had to work for 23 years before the Reichstag building in Berlin was wrapped.
On 25 February 1994, after a lengthy and at times very emotional debate, the German Bundestag voted in favour of the project by roll call vote. More than 100,000 m² of fire-resistant polypropylene fabric coated with an aluminum layer and 15,600 m of rope were required. The wrapping began on June 17, 1995, and was completed on June 24. Ninety professional climbers and many other helpers participated in the installation. Dismantling took place on July 7. During the entire process, five million visitors witnessed the project.
